A corpse and traces of a previous fire were discovered on Monday afternoon in an old farm building in Kondoros, Békés County, a spokesman for the National Directorate General for Disaster Management informed MTI.
Daniel Mukics wrote in a statement that an elderly man had not given a sign of life for days, so police broke into the building where they found his body and traces of a previous fire.
There was a fire in one of the twenty-square-foot rooms of the two-hundred-and-fifty-square-foot farmhouse, igniting a bed and its surroundings.
No firefighting intervention was required. Disaster management has launched a fire investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The spokesman recalled, elderly people who are often living alone, regularly fall victim to house fires. By operating a smoke detector, such cases can be avoided.
